How to Use Finance Faceoff in the Classroom
Finance Faceoff is a teacher-hosted daily financial literacy discussion game. Students use a room code to vote anonymously on an A/B financial dilemma, then the class examines the live result and discusses the reasoning behind both choices.

Teacher setup
Open Finance Faceoff in a modern browser with an internet connection. A projector or shared display is useful for the room code, question, and class results.
Student setup
Each student or pair needs an internet-connected phone, tablet, or computer. No app download or named student account is required.
Today’s content
The homepage loads the scheduled weekday question. Teachers do not select or edit the prompt in the current product. No new Faceoff is scheduled on weekends.
The complete classroom workflow
- Launch the room. Review the question and both options on the homepage, then select “Start Today’s Faceoff.” Finance Faceoff creates a live room for that released question.
- Share the six-digit code. Keep the host screen projected. Students can use the displayed join address or scan the QR code, then enter the code.
- Let students join automatically. A valid student browser is admitted to an open, unexpired room. There is no teacher roster, waiting room, or manual admit button in the current interface.
- Collect one A/B vote per student browser. Students tap a side and see “Vote locked in.” The host screen updates its response count without showing individual names or choices.
- Reveal the class results. Select “Reveal Results” when enough responses are in. The host display shows vote totals, percentages, and three discussion prompts. Revealing results does not close voting by itself.
- Close voting when the poll is final. If students should no longer submit responses, use “Close Voting” on the results screen. The displayed results remain available for discussion.
- Wrap up the Faceoff. Select “Wrap Up Faceoff” to end the room. Rooms also expire three hours after creation if they are not ended sooner.
Facilitation strategies
Pause before the vote
Give students quiet reading time so they respond to the dilemma before reacting to classmates.
Ask for criteria
Invite students to name the cost, risk, value, or future goal that carried the most weight in their choice.
Represent both sides fairly
Collect at least one thoughtful reason for each option, even when the class result is lopsided.
Change one condition
Ask whether a different dollar amount, timeline, responsibility, or risk would change the decision.
Projector and student-device options
One shared host screen
- Project the question while students vote.
- Keep the room code and QR code visible during joining.
- Reveal the result on the same screen for the debrief.
Individual or paired devices
- Students enter the same room code independently.
- A submitted vote is locked for that anonymous browser identity.
- A student refresh retains the locked response in the same browser profile.
Troubleshooting the verified room flow
“We couldn’t find that room”
Confirm all six digits. The room may also have ended or expired.
Voting is closed
New participants cannot enter a closed room, and new votes are rejected after voting closes.
Host controls are denied
Use the same browser profile that started the Faceoff. Another browser identity can view neither the host controls nor the private room data.
The room will not connect
Confirm that the device is online. Some school networks may block the realtime connection used by Firebase.
The room is full
The current trusted join flow caps a room at 100 participating student identities.
A student already voted
Votes are intentionally immutable. The same anonymous identity cannot submit a second choice for that room session.
